Our expertise

The public and employment teams at Chen Palmer have particular expertise in the area of privacy law. Our lawyers are experienced in giving clients advice on complex privacy law issues and providing representation in Privacy Act complaints.  We give advice to privacy officers on their obligations, draft privacy policies for organisations, and manage workplace disputes over privacy issues.  We have extensive experience advising on issues such as:

  • Compliance with the Privacy Act 1993 and industry specific Codes of Practice;
  • Complaints to the Privacy Commissioner and claims to the Human Rights Review Tribunal;
  • Civil claims for tortious invasion of privacy; and
  • Information sharing and matching regimes.

In addition we are able to provide advice on the Official Information Act and how this important public law tool can be used to help achieve outstanding results.

Our experienced team is led by Nicholai Anderson. Nicholai was the former legal advisor to the Human Rights Review Tribunal, which deals specifically with Privacy Act proceedings. He was also a legal advisor to the Ministry of Justice who administer the Privacy Act.

Our Privacy team is on the cutting edge of developments in privacy law, including issues surrounding information sharing, media law and new media.
