Blair Scotland

Senior Associate

Blair has an LLM (Hons) and a BA (Criminology) from Victoria University.  He was admitted to the Bar in 1997 and joined the public service, firstly with the Department of Internal Affairs and then the Ministry of Social Development.  He then moved to Telecom New Zealand Limited in an employment law role, and has most recently worked as a Senior Associate in the legal team of the Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central (formerly EMA Central) for six years.

Blair's areas of expertise include:

  • Personal grievances and dispute resolution, including representation at mediation, the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court;
  • Collective bargaining;
  • Restructures and redundancies;
  • Workplace investigations;
  • In-house and public employment law training.

Blair has been involved in:

  • Representing multiple employers in successfully concluded collective bargaining;
  • Conducting large scale restructures of manufacturing businesses resulting in 350+ redundancies, with no personal grievances;
  • Co-presenting a 2 day employment law course over the past six years;
  • Successfully representing the employer in the most recent Employment Court case on the common law duty of indemnification.
