The Superdiversity Centre has released a CQ Stocktake from the Response to the Superdiversity Stocktake forums held last month in Auckland and Wellington, at which world-class superdiversity expert and founder of Common Purpose, Julia Middleton, gave the keynote addresses on how New Zealand can develop cultural intelligence to lift its economic and social performance, followed by presentations by key business and public sector leaders.
The report, titled CQ Stocktake: Developing Cultural Capability to Succeed in the New Zealand, focuses on what business, government and organisations need to succeed in superdiverse New Zealand. The Forum followed on from the launch of the Superdiversity Stocktake: Implications for Business, Government and New Zealand in November 2015, which has been downloaded over 90,000 times.
Superdiversity Centre Chair Mai Chen said, “Following the Superdiversity Stocktake, many said we now understand the issues, but how do we get culturally competent to deal successfully with them?” The CQ Stocktake is the Superdiversity Centre’s contribution to help New Zealand deepen its cultural capability. It is one of the key 21st century skills identified by the recent World Economic Forum Report CQ and will be critical to those wanting to succeed as NZ’s ethnic diversity increases.
The Superdiversity Centre has developed specialised tools to enable businesses and organisations to assess their cultural capability and to get measurable improvements in the cultural capability of their organisation to better service customers and get the best from their staff. Superdiversity Centre co-Chief Executives James Dunne and Marina Matthews said that CQ Audits, CQ training and Asia capability training are now critical for organisations to leverage off ethnic Superdiversity to succeed.
“The proceedings of the forum revealed a real hunger for greater cultural intelligence among the participants – everyone in the room realised that the superdiversity wave has already broken over New Zealand and we need to move now to stay competitive”, said Dunne and Matthews.
